法國原生品種，是 Mondeuse Blanc 與 Dureza 的後代，早熟、萌芽晚，果串緊湊、果粒小，因其成熟期短的特性，需要生長在較溫暖氣候中以達到成熟，目前在世界上被廣泛種植，其種植數量之多，在紅葡萄酒中大概只略低於卡本內蘇維翁與梅洛，雖然他是法國品種，但是目前最負盛名的產區，除了法國的隆河之外，就是澳洲了，在澳洲與南非，這個品種被命名為 Shiraz，澳洲的葡萄酒世界中，Shiraz 是最主要的葡萄品種，幾乎所有的澳洲次產區都有生產，在 19 世紀中至末期，歐洲發生大規模的根瘤蚜蟲害 ( Phylloxera ) ，但澳洲並未受此影響，因此得以保存許多老藤，著名的巴羅莎谷地 ( Barossa Valley ) 就保留了相當數量的老藤，此處生產的 Shiraz 帶著濃郁的黑色水果及香料味，風格強勁、滋味深邃。
而在他的原生地法國隆河，Syrah 常被用來當成混釀的重要元素，雖然他單一品種表現優異，但跟其他品種配合的時候，會表現出更全面及平衡的面貌，例如南隆河最著名的混釀以格納西 ( Grenache ) 、希哈 ( Syrah )、慕維得爾 ( Mourvèdre ) 混合而成的 GSM，在北隆河的羅第丘 ( Cote Rotie ) 會加入不超過 20 % 的維歐尼耶 ( Viognier)，而在艾米達吉 ( Hermitage ) ，偶而會與 Marsanne 及 Roussanne 混釀。
希哈，生於法國，但在新世界中大放異彩，特別盛行於澳洲，其功勞離不開被稱澳洲國寶級葡萄酒莊的奔富酒莊 ( Penfolds ) ，其他單一品種或混釀酒款眾多而其中的旗艦酒款葛蘭許 ( Grange ) 被稱為澳洲酒王，更被列入「南澳洲非物質文化遺產名錄」，足見希哈在澳洲葡萄酒中的地位。
